Six flights of the $1MM guarantee opening event are in the books and the field stands at 2,047 entries creating a $595,677 prize pool. The final two flights — today’s Flight G and H — begin at noon and 5 p.m. and at their conclusion, the prize pool and Day 2 field will be set.
Flight-by-flight breakdown of entries and double qualifiers thus far:
Through six flights a total of five players have double qualified with Jess McVicker leading the most chip surrendered category at 231,000.
One play not listed among the double qualifiers is BCP pro and Flight C chip leader Aaron Massey. On the bubble of Thursday’s Flight E, Massey lost a big pot holding pocket eights against AQ to get knocked down to 150,000. A few hands later and still on the bubble, Massey looked down at AK on the button and opened the action. The big blind, knowing the situation Massey was in, moved all-in and Massey called only to see his opponent table 10-2. Luck would be not be the lady Massey hoped though, as the board ran out a straight for his opponent eliminating Massey and keeping him from double bagging.
Remember, the player who surrenders the most chips via double qualifying earns a $10,000 WSOP Main Event seat and $2,000 cash while the players with the second and third most chips surrendered pocket $5,000 cash.
