Main Event Chip Counts — Giesbricht Leads, Raymer in the Hunt

Greg RaymerDay 1 is in the books and the 745-entry starting field in the Chicago Poker Classic Main Event is down to the final 105 players with Canada’s Sean Giesbrecht leading the way at 533,000. While Giesbrecht created a nice cushion for himself, capturing the title will be no easy task as he’s trailed by Mike Mustafa (451,000), 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer (270,000), 2012 WPT Five Diamond champion Ravi Raghavan (235,000), gold bracelet winner Chance Kornuth (217,000) and many others.

Action kicked off for the first of two starting flights in the $1,500 finale Friday at 12 p.m. The opener drew 364 entries and was surpassed by Flight B’s 381. The 745-entry field generated a $990,031 prize pool, and per the structure sheet, the event’s 3 percent staffing fee and promotional monies counted toward the guarantee, and thus, the property met its $1,000,000 guarantee handily.

Notables not fortunate enough to play their way to Day 2 include the defending champion Blake Bohn, gold bracelet winner Dan Heimiller and Chicago’s own BCP pro Aaron Massey.

Cards go in the air for Day 2 at 12 p.m. with blinds of 500/2,500/5,000 and the top 72 finishers earning prize money. Full chip counts are listed below while the complete prize pool is available a few posts down.
